Transitional Living

The need for Transitional Living services is more pressing than ever. According to recent statistics, over 4 million youth experience homelessness in the U.S. each year, and one in five children live in households that struggle to afford stable housing. The Children’s Services Fund offers Transitional Living services providing essential support for youth and children facing housing insecurity, including older youth who are aging out of the foster care system. These programs offer a safe, stable environment where young individuals can gain life skills, access education and receive counseling to help them transition into independent living.

The Impact of Housing Insecurity on Youth

Housing insecurity can have devastating effects on young people, including increased risks of mental health issues, educational disruptions and long-term instability. Transitional Living services not only provide a roof over their heads but also empower youth with the skills they need to thrive. Programs often include mental health services and case management, life skills training, job readiness workshops and access to educational resources, creating pathways to a brighter future.

“That the CSF funds programs like Moving Beyond Depression and Promise 1000 demonstrates their broad perspective on positively influencing children’s lives. They understand the significance of addressing factors beyond immediate, direct services for children and recognize the long-term impact surrounding environments have on children. This holistic approach is invaluable in shaping healthy futures for children.”

"Children's Services Fund of Jackson County has been an integral partner of Amethyst Place for the past several years. Their support has helped us grow our Therapy services for youth tremendously. They are also helping us build capacity to prepare for expansion and serve nearly double the number of children. We are so grateful for the work they do in Jackson County."
Sarah Knopf-Amelung, Director of Strategy & Growth, Amethyst Place
"Because of CSF funding, we were able to launch this program and track outcomes. We now see that it absolutely is impactful. Our young mothers are making huge strides. They’re paying off debt, they’re able to buy themselves a car and one has a $20,000 scholarship now that she’s in college! We’re seeing these young ladies do amazing things for their families. So, we know now—[transitional living services] past the first two years of maternity care is a solution."
Kelsie Green, Assistant Executive Director, Mother’s Refuge
